To identify the source—hemorrhoids, fissures, IBD, polyps, or malignancy.
Workup & Treatment
- History & Exam: Visual inspection, digital rectal exam.
- Endoscopy: Anoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, or colonoscopy.
- Therapies:
- Hemorrhoids: band ligation, sclerotherapy
- Fissures: topical nitrates, Botox
- IBD: medical therapy
- Polyps/mass: polypectomy or biopsy
