            Why is an endoscopy important?

An endoscopy allows the doctor to examine the oesophagus, stomach, and upper part of the small intestine. It can help identify ulcers, inflammation, bleeding, narrowing, and other digestive problems. NIDDK

A colonoscopy examines the rectum and entire colon. It helps investigate bleeding, persistent bowel changes, abdominal symptoms, and can detect or remove polyps and screen for colorectal cancer. NIDDK

ERCP is used mainly to treat problems affecting the bile and pancreatic ducts, including stones, blockages, narrowing, and bile-flow problems. It combines endoscopy with X-ray imaging. NIDDK

EUS combines endoscopy with ultrasound to produce detailed images of the digestive tract and nearby organs, including the pancreas and bile ducts. It may also be used to collect tissue samples when required.

Yes. During certain procedures, the doctor may collect a small tissue sample for laboratory examination when medically necessary.

Patients are commonly given sedation or medication to improve comfort. The type of sedation and expected experience depend on the procedure and the patient’s medical condition.
