Why Do I Need Screening?

  • Chronic H. pylori infection
  • Family history of gastric cancer
  • Persistent dyspepsia

How Should I Prepare?

  • Fasting 6 hours before endoscopy.
  • Continue PPIs unless instructed to stop 2 weeks prior.

What Happens During Endoscopy?

  • Sedation administered.
  • Biopsies taken from the antrum, body, and incisura of the stomach.
  • Duration: 10–20 minutes.

What Can I Expect Afterwards?

  • Recovery for 30–60 minutes.
  • Resume clear liquids then light diet.

Risks & Possible Complications

  • Minor bleeding at biopsy sites (<1%)
  • Perforation (<0.1%)

Follow-Up

  • GIM without dysplasia: endoscopy every 3 years.
  • GIM with dysplasia: refer to gastroenterologist for individualized surveillance.
