Targeted imaging and blood tests to detect pancreatic cancer early in high-risk individuals.

Why Do I Need Screening?

  • Strong family history of pancreatic cancer
  • Genetic syndromes (e.g., BRCA, Lynch syndrome)
  • Chronic pancreatitis

How Should I Prepare?

  • Fasting 6 hours before imaging if CT or MRI is used.
  • No special prep for blood tests (CA 19-9 marker).

What Happens During Screening?

  • Imaging: MRI/MRCP or endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) to visualize the pancreas.
  • Blood Test: CA 19-9 tumor-marker measurement.
  • Duration: 30–60 minutes.

What Can I Expect Afterwards?

  • Resume normal diet and activities immediately.
  • Minor discomfort from IV insertion.

Risks & Possible Complications

  • Contrast reaction (rare) with CT/MRI
  • Sedation risks if EUS performed (<1%)

Follow-Up

  • Annual imaging and CA 19-9 if high risk.
  • Genetic counseling as indicated.
