What Is EUS?
EUS combines endoscopy and ultrasound to image and biopsy pancreatic, biliary, and upper-GI lesions with high precision.
Why Do I Need EUS?
- Pancreatic masses or cysts
- Biliary obstruction of unknown cause
- Submucosal GI lesions
- Lymph-node staging or biopsy
How Should I Prepare?
- Fasting 6–8 hours.
- Review blood thinners.
- Consent for potential fine-needle aspiration.
What Happens During the Procedure?
- Sedation administered.
- Echoendoscope advanced; real-time imaging.
- FNA/FNB biopsy performed with a needle under ultrasound guidance.
What Can I Expect Afterwards?
- Observation for 1–2 hours.
- Resume diet and activities per advice.
Risks & Possible Complications
- Mild bleeding (0.1–0.5%)
- Infection (<1%)
- Pancreatitis (0.4%)
- Perforation (<0.05%)
Follow-Up
- Biopsy results in 3–5 days.
- Plan subsequent therapy based on pathology.
